Full Description

PRN 25668 The General Baptist chapel and burial ground are indicated on the 1904 OS County Series map. The current chapel replaces one built in 1814 for a society formed in 1813 as a branch of Fleet and later of Tydd St Giles, Cambridgeshire. It is still in use as a Baptist chapel (2010). The building has two cells. The gabled lower cell facing the road has a much altered and rendered front of three bays with a tablet above the round-headed doorway inscribed 'General Baptist Chapel AD 1834'. The taller cell behind has three bays of original round-headed windows, separated by pilasters, with margin lights and coloured glass. The brickwork has a straight join between the two cells indicating that they were built at different times but it is not possible to see which was built first. The large graveyard to the rear contains various monuments. The earliest discernible date is 1894 and many of the monuments date to the first few years of the 20th century. {1}{2}{3}{4}
