Full Description

PRN 25659 A United Methodist chapel is indicated on the 1932 OS County Series map. The first chapel was built in 1854 and was superseded by the extant chapel which was built in 1907 and opened in 1908. It subsequently closed in 1952. It survives, much altered, and is now in use as a co-operative food store. It is built of red brick with yellow brick dressings, though the gable and south-east elevation are painted. The gabled roof has a slate covering and ornamental ridge copings and finials. A modern extension obscures most of the front gable elevation but above is a lunette with an ornamental iron grill. The gable has dentil gault brick verges. The south-east side elevation has been grossly altered but the north-west elevation has three bays of round-headed windows with ashlar arches and two string-courses of double courses of gault brick at window impost, and cill, level. The side elevations have dentil gault brick cornices. A low gabled annexe to the rear has three bays of blocked segmental-headed windows with ashlar cills.{1}{2}{3}{4}
