Full Description
PRN 25650
The chapel is indicated on the 1904 OS County Series map. The date stone is partly obscured and now reads only 'Methodist Chapel 1885'. Mid 19th century documentary sources record both a Wesleyan Chapel of about 1810 and a Primitive Chapel of 1834 in Gedney Drove End. It is unclear which chapel this building replaces. The current chapel building is constructed of red brick with gault brick dressings and a hipped roof with a covering of modern pantiles and wooden eaves boards. The elevation facing the road has three bays separated by brick pilasters with round-headed windows in the outer bays and the stone date tablet in the central bay. The windows have gault brick arches and margin lights. The south-east elevation has four bays of windows separated by brick pilasters, the easternmost obscured by an added gabled annexe. The north-west elevation has three bays of round-headed windows as the westernmost bay is occupied by a gabled porch. There are several foundation stones and velux windows have been inserted into the roof. A Sunday School indicated on the 1904 map, on the opposite side of the road, no longer survives. {1}{2}{3}{4}{5}
