Full Description

PRN 48264 A watching brief on land near The Chase was undertaken intermittedly between January 2006 and August 2007. During the excavation of footings for a housing development at Plot 8, a large pit containing a daub or fired clay, charcoal flecks and late Iron Age to early Roman pottery was revealed. The assemblage of pottery and possible kiln fragments suggests that this area was the site of a previously unknown, early Roman kiln. Furthermore, a new form of pottery was found which has been added to the Lincoln Fabric Series as Tetford iron and grog tempered ware. {1}{2}
