Full Description

PRN 48262 A rifle range at this site is first shown on the 1905 Ordnance Survey map. This appears to have replaced an earlier range to the east (PRN 43882) which is shown on the County Series first edition map of 1891. The range extends to the east with firing points up to 800 yards. {1}{2} The range is still shown on maps from the 1950s (surveyed in the 1930s). {3} The remains of a bunker for target personnel associated with the range were observed recently. The bunker is constructed of red brick with stone coping. There is a hole where a red flag may have been raised during resetting of targets. {4}
