PRN 38925. [This record includes information from record PRN 34021 which has been removed from the HER.] These almshouses date from the 19th century and consist of three ranges of single storey buildings arranged around a central garden. They have various decorative features, and are considered to be significant within the Conservation Area. {1} The buildings are shown on a 1971 OS map. {2} George Dawson left money in 1662 for ten poor and aged persons. The charity was revised in 1844 and in 1860 and ten almshouses were built in 1862. In 1967 the almshouses were modernised and their number reduced to eight. {3}
