Full Description
PRN 38909
A geophysical survey in January 2009, located evidence of a possible ring ditch in the area later found to be sealed by bank material. Conclusive identification of such a feature was not made as a result of later trial trenching. However, the postholes and pit would appear to have lain within the bounds of the anomaly. {3}{4}
Remains considered to be prehistoric in date, were located during trial trench excavation off Manning Road, Bourne, in January 2009. The activity, comprising a ditch, two post holes and a pit, was located after the removal of a buried soil, which had in turn been sealed by bank deposits associated with the Car Dyke. There were no associated artefacts, but four pieces of worked flint dated as late Neolithic and/or Bronze Age were recovered from the overlying buried soil, together with a fragment of Roman pottery and a possible loom weight of Iron Age or Roman date (see PRN 38910). {1}{2}
