This row of houses, along with Paradise Place (PRN 48244), was built to house the Irish construction workers (or 'navvies') brought in to work on the Horncastle Canal between 1786 and 1802. It, with Paradise Place, is the earliest of the workers' housing which characterises this area. {1}
