Full Description
Range of planned farm buildings including 2 storey barn and cart sheds, stables and cattle shelter arranged around a central south-facing crewyard, with attached farmhouse. The buildings are constructed of coursed limestone rubble with red brick dressings and pantiled roofs, and retain some of their original wooden doors with latches and strap hinges and sash windows. The farm is not shown on the 1824 O.S. map but appears on the 1886 map, and was probably built following the Corn Law repeal in 1846. A red brick cart shed to the north was built sometime between 1886 and 1906. The buildings represent a good example of a small purpose-built mixed farm, reflecting the local agricultural practices of the time. {1}{2}
Thorpe Lane Farm, Brattleby. Partially extant 19th century farmstead. Regular courtyard of U plan. The farmhouse is detached from the main working complex. There has been a partial loss (less than 50%) of traditional buildings. Isolated location. Large modern sheds are located on the site. {3}
