Full Description

PRN 56322 A rectangular barn, mainly built in limestone with a timber raised collar roof covered with pantiles; the barn was subject to a building survey carried out in March 2009. The structure is shown on a tithe map of 1851, abutted by a small subsidiary structure to the southeast. Abutting structures to the north of the barn are visible on the Ordnance Survey map of 1907, but these would appear to have been replaced in the 1960s by a brick-built extension or lean-to (extant). The lean-to on the southern side of the building was probably extended at the same time, to the full length of the barn. Internally, the main building was originally divided into two, with a hayloft (no longer extant) on one side. The main walls are around 450mm thick with high level window apertures in each gable. There is a small opening to the northern extension or lean-to, and a double width opening and separate doorway to the south. The large opening has a timber supporting lintel and wooden doors. {1}{2}
