Full Description

PRN 38898 Two ditches and a posthole of probable medieval date were uncovered during a watching brief on land to the north of Beck Way. One of the ditches was aligned east to west, possibly forming the rear boundary of medieval plots extending along Northorpe Lane. Bourne type pottery dated late 13th to 14th century was retrieved from the secondary fill of the feature. The second ditch was aligned north to south, terminating at a point immediately north of the first feature, and possibly forming a division between adjacent plots. It contained two sherds of 12th century Stamford Ware pottery. A pit located east and north of the ditches produced a single sherd of 12th century pottery. An undated ditch, aligned northwest to southeast, lay to the south of the dated features, and could belong to the same phase of activity since all were overlain by the same deposit of subsoil. {1}{2}
