Full Description

PRN 71044 An archaeological watching brief (January 2007 to October 2008) was carried out on land to the southeast of the Monks Road/Allenby Road junction. A small number of undated features and deposits, including a probable ditch or gully aligned north to south, which was found in close proximity to the southern boundary. The feature cut the underlying deposit of alluvial clay, but the depth of the exacavation (c. 2.10m below ground level) prevented close examination. Subsoil extended over the feature and much of the site. Cut into the subsoil, was a steep sided linear feature, aligned east to west. It was interpreted as a possible service or robber trench (the feature was filled by limestone rubble). Buried topsoil overlay the subsoil and various modern deposits extended to ground level. {1}{2}
