Full Description

PRN 38897 A watching brief was carried out in June to October 2007, on land to the northeast of the village, at the junction between Spalding Road and Hall Meadow Road. Alluvial clays extended throughout the area, overlying sand and gravel deposits. Several undated features were found, cut into the natural clays. On the western side of the site, a northwest to southeast aligned ditch ran parallel with the western site boundary and Hall Meadow Road. The feature was 3.3m wide and 1.5m deep, with a primary fill of organic silt. On the southern side of the site, a large cut was located. Interpreted as either an elongated pit or a linear feature, it was 4m wide by 1.08m deep. A smaller pit lay immediately to the west. A shallow pit 4.65m wide and 0.60m deep was found at the southeast corner of the site. It is considered likely that all of the features were post-medieval in date. {1}{2}
