Full Description

A small number of undated features were revealed in trial trenches excavated in October 2008. Five trenches were excavated, each measuring 50m long by 1.8m wide. Over the majority of the site, natural sands and gravels lay immediately below the modern topsoil, although intervening subsoil was found to the north-west (Trench 5), and intermittently in Trench 1 to the north-east. Undated features comprised a large pit in Trench 1 (thought to be modern), an east-west aligned ditch and pit/posthole in Trench 2 (situated to the east), and a well defined small pit or posthole in Trench 4 (located in the south-western part of the area). Probable tree throw holes in Trenches 2 and 5 were sampled for evidence of flint working, but produced only unworked burnt flint. {1}{2}
