Full Description

PRN 65660 A Christian Baptist Chapel, built around 1810, is recorded in 1851 and 1856. This chapel may subsequently have become the Wesleyan Methodist High Street chapel which is thought to have originally belonged to another denomination (PRN 65661). A building on the High Street is known as Chapel Forge. It is a red-brick building with a gabled pantile roof and ashlar and polychrome dressings. An ashlar keystone is inscribed JP with a date which appears to have been originally 1818 but altered to perhaps read 1848. There is no evidence to suggest that this was the chapel building and it may have been a barn, stables, or carriage house, perhaps associated with the chapel. The chapel may have stood on the adjoining vacant plot which was designated for development in 2009.{1}{2}{3}
