Full Description

PRN 65640 A Wesleyan Chapel is indicated in Chapel Street on the 1905 OS County Series map. The site was visited in 2009. The first chapel was built in 1833 and rebuilt and enlarged in 1849. This chapel had a Sunday School which was demolished sometime around 1962. The chapel was demolished in 1960 after a new chapel was built on an adjacent plot in 1958. The car park and meeting hall for the new chapel now stand on the site of the demolished building. A photograph of the demolished chapel survives and shows that it had a gabled roof with a raised gable on the 3-bay front elevation which had a tall central bay and aisles which each had a pointed doorway. The central bay had a large 3-light pointed window with intersecting Gothic tracery. Above the aisles were pointed clerestorey windows.{1}{2}{3}{4}{5}{6}
