Full Description
PRN 65620
The former Primitive Chapel on High Street was built in 1912 and superseded the earlier chapel in West Street (PRN 62363). It is indicated on the OS 1:10000 map. The chapel is built of red brick with ashlar dressings and has a gabled and partially hipped roof with a slate covering. The three-bay gabled front has a central, broad, round-arched window between two tall, narrow, round-arched windows. All three windows have ashlar arches and there is a broad ashlar band and apex in the gable. The window frames have all been replaced in plastic and contian modern coloured glass. Below the central window is a flat-roofed porch which has three bays with central double doors and a small pediment above. The main gable is raised and has stone copings and kneelers and square lateral projections. The roof is partially hipped to the rear and has overhanging eaves. The side elevations have four bays of segmental-headed windows with red brick dressings. Velux windows and an internal floor have been inserted. A gabled annexe at right angles behind with flat-headed openings probably represents a former Sunday School.{1}{2}{3}
