Full Description
High Victorian house, built of red brick with yellow brick decorations and slate roof. The building is three storeys high including attic dormers, with a pitched roof and historic decorative shop fronts. These are buildings identified as of historical interest by the South Holland District Council Local List. They are a good example of this style of building of this period and survive with only a few changes to their original construction. {1}
A date stone is located to the middle of the northern elevation which names the structure as 'The Hive' and gives a date of 1880 for its construction. The local list suggests the numbering should be 17-19, however this is incorrect as number 19 is the small brick addition to the north which is modern and is unlikely to be intentionally on the local list. {2}
Several outbuildings of late 19th century date are depicted to the rear of 15-17 Market Street, Long Sutton, on historic mapping of the area. A programme of historic building survey, conducted in July 2014, recorded the outbuildings on the site, prior to their proposed demolition. The survey determined that the current structures were replacements of the earlier, depicted structures, and clearly dated to the mid 20th century. {3}{4}
