Full Description

There is a Wesleyan chapel on the High Street, which is a 'humble brick box' of c.1790 with two entrances on the long side, looking more like a pair of cottages (except that the fenestration would be wrong). Inside, the gallery still survives. {1}{2} A Wesleyan Society was established in the village by 1759. This chapel was opened in 1800 (when it was registered as a newly erected building the property of William Storr) and was superseded by a chapel built in 1901 on a site further along High Street (PRN 61060). It was used for 'minor secular purposes' for much of the 20th century but is now in use as a house. It had a plaster ceiling with tie beams and a gallery supported by chamfered posts with traces of former seating, which survived at least until the 1970s, though it is unknown if they still survive following conversion to a house. The gabled building is of red brick with a pantile roof covering. The broad front has two round-arched doorways with radiating fanlights either side of a segmental-headed sash window. Two small gallery windows lie above the entrances. The gable elevations have been refenestrated. The railings survive. {3}{4}{5}{6} A late eighteenth century Methodist Chapel, now disused, built of brick with a pantile roof. Internally only the gallery survives. There are iron railings to the street front with two iron gates.
