Full Description

[This record incorporates information from PRN 50068 - now deleted] The Manor House was built in 1773 to 1776 for Charles Aistroppe. Minor alterations to the building were undertaken in the 19th and 20th centuries. The house was built in red brick in English and Flemish bonds, in a L shaped plan. The house has an extremely complete interior. The building is now in use as a residential nursing home. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1} The current structure is believed to stand on the site of an earlier, medieval manor house, that was demolished in the 18th century. Foundations of this earlier structure were noticed during alterations to the present structure in the 19th century. The plan form of the earlier structure was said to be a quadrangle enclosing a courtyard, with a fortified gateway at the north-western angle. King John is recorded as having spent the night of 25th September 1216 at Scotter, almost certainly at the Manor House. {2}{3}
