Full Description

A pigeoncote, stables and barn dating from the late 18th century and constructed of coursed limestone rubble with brick dressings and pantile roofs with one brick wall stack. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1} A brief photographic survey was conducted in December 2012, following the partial collapse of the southern elevation of the barn at Elm House, Spridlington. The building is a late 18th century, two storey structure, built of coursed limestone rubble and featuring a clay pantile pitched roof. The survey revealed that the eastern third of the building had suffered from storm damage and that several of the roof timbers were rotting. A decision was subsequently taken to demolish the damaged portion of the building in January 2013. {2} A further photographic survey was conducted in July 2016 to inform a proposed conversion to domestic use of the farm buildings. The surveyed buildings comprised: the barn, a further two-storey building containing a pigeoncote on the upper storey and stable with hayloft/granary above, two single-storey open-fronted shelter sheds, a further outbuilding, all of which form a south-facing U-shape surrounding a crewyard with coarse limestone rubble wall to the south, and a separate garden store. The buildings are constructed of limestone rubble with red pantile roofs. The pigeoncote has surviving pigeon access screen with timber flight ledges. {3}{4}
