Full Description
Timber-framed house dating from the late 15th century, with alterations and additions from the 17th, 18th and 20th centuries. Most of the exterior is 20th century in date, with rendered panels. It is of two storeys, with a three-bay front, and a steeply-pitched roof of pantiles with two brick gable chimney stacks. The interior has two-and-a-half bays exposed of a former four bay hall, with the timber frame and roof structure completely intact, plus a rear aisle which is possibly a later addition. The rafters of the eastern bay and a half are smoke blackened, and this section has obviously been a two-storey late medieval hall, with an inserted floor. Some stud partitions retain their wattle and daub infill. Most of the exterior was brick clad in the eighteenth century. The building contains an unusual post which has been described as a cruck but would be more accurately described as an unusual curved post. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate entry in the National Heritage List for England. {1}{2}{3}
A large number of the original 15th century medieval timbers were revealed during renovation works to the building, reported in November 1994. {4}
