Full Description

PRN 38880 This house dates to the mid 18th century and earlier. It is two storeys high with attics and is constructed of ashlar stone with a slate roof. It has a finely decorated eaves cornice. The upper windows have moulded wooden surrounds and the ground floor retains the remains of its original door and also an early style of shop window. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1} This house dates to the early 18th century although the street front was altered in the mid 18th century. The street front is of ashlar but the side walls are of stone, brick and timber frame. At the rear is a late 18th century timber framed passageway and stair turret. The interior includes mid 18th century panelled rooms and a mid 18th century staircase. The house was owned by William Lindsey, a carpenter, during the mid 18th century and he was presumably responsible for the alterations and refitting at this time. {2} This house is a 'grand essay in miniature'. {3}
