Full Description

PRN 38760 The Assembly Rooms date to around 1727 (building leave was granted on 18th April 1727). They are a single storey ashlar stone building with a slate roof. The interior has no outstanding features but is well proportioned and has not been unduly altered. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1} The Assembly Rooms building has a classical style front which contrasts with the adjacent domestic buildings. It was built around 1727, replacing the previous arrangement where assemblies were held at a house in Barn Hill. In the late 18th century new 'card and tea rooms' were added. In 1868 the Rooms were unsympathetically restored by William Langley. Few original internal features survive, although there is a remaining fireplace and some wall panelling. {2}
