[Note - where there is confusion or discrepancy between sources regarding the date of a building, the Royal
Commission survey (which is the most detailed and recent) has been taken as the most reliable.]
These houses are known as Bourne Court. They were built around 1800 by the Bourne Charity and by around 1813 there were four houses, two barns and two stables on the site although now only two houses survive. Both have been recently altered. No. 4 incorporates a large chimney stack from an earlier building. {2}
These two houses form a pair and they date from the late 17th or early 18th century [this is considered incorrect - see above]. They are two storeys in height and have attics, and are constructed of coursed rubble with slate mansard roofs. No. 4 has a blocked doorway and no. 5 has a modern window. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1}
The side entrance to No. 4 (in Mallory Lane) is a 14th century pointed arch which is presumably from another building. {3}
