Full Description

PRN 38616 [Note - where there is confusion or discrepancy between sources regarding the date of a building, the Royal Commission survey (which is the most detailed and recent) has been taken as the most reliable.] This building was originally a two storeyed timber framed jettied building of early 16th century date. In the late 17th century the jetty on the street side was underbuilt and a new shop front was added. It was heightened to three storeys in the early 18th century, and given an ashlar front. The interior retains moulded axial roof beams and a dragon beam. There is also an early fireplace and the remains of an 18th century timber framed stair turret and staircase. {1} This type of building was often originally used as a shop with accommodation above. {2} This three storey ashlar stone house dates to the mid 18th century [this date is probably incorrect - see above]. It has a Welsh slate roof and two modern shop fronts. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {3}
