Full Description

PRN 38604 [Note - where there is confusion or discrepancy between sources regarding the date of a building, the Royal Commission survey (which is the most detailed and recent) has been taken as the most reliable.] The central part of this house is medieval in origin, as suggested by the pitch of the roof. The street section was rebuilt with an ashlar stone front in the 18th century and it originally extended further south onto the site of no. 3. The rear section was rebuilt in red brick in the early 19th century and at the same time the current shop front was added. Inside there is a staircase with a balustrade in the Chinese style, which has been repaired. There is a small stone building in the yard which dates from around 1700 and was probably used as a kitchen and servants' quarters. This retains its original windows. {1} This house dates to the 18th century and earlier [see above]. It is two storeys high and cement rendered, with a slate roof and an early 19th century shop front. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {2}
