Full Description

PRN 38597 [Note - where there is confusion or discrepancy between sources regarding the date of a building, the Royal Commission survey (which is the most detailed and recent) has been taken as the most reliable.] This arch was originally from the former Corn Market in Broad Street which was built in 1839 in the Tudor style by the Rev. Henry de Foe Baker of Greetham. It was dismantled in 1862 and one of the arches was moved to the gateway of the Bluecoat School by R. Tinkler, as was reported in the Stamford Mercury. {2}{3}{4} This stone arch dates from the 15th century [this is incorrect - see above] and was one of those removed from an arcade in front of Browne's Hospital in Broad Street. It was moved to its present site in the early 19th century and now forms the gateway to Sir Malcolm Sargent School.
