Full Description

PRN 38379 This three storey ashlar stone house dates from the mid 18th century and is similar to no. 23 (PRN 37676). For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1} This house was built by James Bellaers, a merchant, sometime after 1754 but well before 1779. In 1779 it was described as an 'accompting house' with domestic accommodation on the upper floors and a link to no. 23. Some alterations were carried out in the early 19th century, probably after the firm of Bellaers went bankrupt in 1814. These include moving the central doorway and associated interior alterations including a new staircase. One of the original office rooms retains its panelling. {2}
