Full Description

Grade II listed school and schoolhouse attached to south, dating from 1867. It is coursed ironstone rubble with ashlar dressings and has fishscale slate roofs with iron ridge with small ventilators three stacks. For the full description of this listed building please refer to the National Heritage List for England. {1} The first known school in the village was built by Earl Brownlow in 1845. This was replaced in 1867 by the current school and teacher's residence. {2}{3} The school was closed in the mid-1980s, despite opposition from locals, due to declining attendance. {4}
