Full Description

PRN 38292 This two storey house with attics dates to the early 18th century although it was refronted in 1830. The rear wing incorporates remains of a 17th century house and there is also a late 17th century chimney. The house is built of ashlar with slate roof and has a pair of two storey canted bays each with three windows. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1} This house is also known as Willoughby House. It is mostly 18th century and was probably built around 1717. It has a chimney stack in the east wall which appears to be 17th century and a single storey rear wing of 17th century origin, although this was refaced in ashlar stone in the late 18th century. The street front was refaced before 1870. Internally, most features date from a redecoration carried out around 1790, although there is an early 18th century staircase. On an outbuilding is a stone inscribed 'Under the pavement is a well 1717' which may refer to a feature discovered during the building of the house. {2}
