[Note - where there is confusion or discrepancy between sources regarding the date of a building, the Royal Commission survey (which is the most detailed and recent) has been taken as the most reliable.]
This building has an early 19th century external appearance, however the west room and central passage may have originally been a medieval open hall with service end. There are no definitely medieval details, however the medieval arrangement is reflected in the placing of the windows, and this room has a high ceiling with a heavy cross beam. There is a cross partition of 18th century date. {1}
This building dates to the late 16th or early 17th century [this is probably incorrect - see above]. It is two storeys in height and is constructed of painted stone with a slate roof. The windows are irregularly placed and have thin wooden lintels. There is also a wrought iron sign bracket. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {2}
The west part of this building, containing the possible remains of the medieval open hall, was demolished and rebuilt as a replica in 1984. {3}
