Full Description

Grade II listed school and house, dating from 1848. It is coursed and squared limestone rubble with ashlar dressings and quoins and has Colyweston slate roofs with raised stone coped gables and moulded kneelers. For the full description of this listed building please refer to the National Heritage List for England. {1} White's 1872 Trade Directory states that the Free School in Uffington was founded in 1814 by the late Earl of Lindsey. It was rebuilt in 1848 and by 1872 was attended by around 60 pupils. {2} The building is shown on the 1901 OS map without the northern range, which appears to be a sympathetic 20th century addition. {3}
