Full Description

PRN 37668 [Note - where there is confusion or discrepancy between sources regarding the date of a building, the Royal Commission survey (which is the most detailed and recent) has been taken as the most reliable.] This house originated as a late medieval house with a hall. It has two later rear wings, one (to the east) dating to the 16th century and one to the 18th century. The street elevation was largely rebuilt in the 18th century and has two shop fronts with bow windows. These are either modern or rebuilt. A medieval doorway survives at no. 6 and there is also a tall medieval buttress with weathered top at the south east corner of the building. The interior includes some early beams. The front range and the earlier rear wing were both reroofed using old materials, probably in the 17th century. {1} This house has an 18th century origin [this is incorrect - see above]. It is two storeys in height and built of coursed rubble (no. 6 is painted) with a steep slate roof. No. 5 has a modern shop front with bowed windows and no. 6 has an 18th century bowed shop window. There is a medieval stone buttress at the south end of the front elevation. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {2} The medieval stone buttress appears to be of 15th century character. {4}
