Full Description

PRN 37201 [Note - where there is confusion or discrepancy between sources regarding the date of a building, the Royal Commission survey (which is the most detailed and recent) has been taken as the most reliable.] This house has a late medieval origin, possibly 16th century, and originally consisted of a main range and cross wing. It was considerably altered, including a new stone street front, in the late 18th century. The original house appears to have been timber framed and jettied, although much of this has since been hidden. The north cross wing retains its timbr framed first floor jetty. The north wall is timber framed but encased in rubble. The interior includes an area of late 16th century wall painting on a timber framed wall in the cross wing. The design includes polychrome floral decoration as well as a fret pattern and an upper frieze. Further areas of painting were recorded before they were covered. An upper room has early 17th century panelling but the rest of the interior fittings are early 19th century. {1} This house has a late 17th century core [this date is probably incorrect - see above] and an 18th century front elevation. It is two storeys in height and has plastered walls with a slate roof. The interior retains traces of 17th century floral decoration [this date is also probably incorrect - see above].
