For the full description of this listed building please refer to the National Heritage List for England. {1} An assessment of the significance of Crawford House was produced in August 2016, to inform proposed alterations to the house and an adjacent former stable block. A brief summary of the building's history and development was included, detailing the various phases of alterations that are known about through historical research. The house is thought to have its origins in c.1680, when a surveyors report regarding the propoerty is produced. The house originally fronted on to South Street, though was re-oriented to face the east and Thorney Street in the second half of the 18th century, during a major phase of re-building. This re-building also included the adjustment of many of the windows, to create the vertical proportions typical of Georgian architecture. It is likely at this time that the adjcent stable block was added (see PRN 25840). Several further phases of alterations were noted at varioous times in the property's history, including the addition of a number of extensions to the house. {2}
