Full Description

Grade II listed shop with accommodation above. Gives access to outbuildings to the rear, which may have been used as a former tannery (see PRN 27287). The building dates from about 1820 and was altered in the 20th century. It is red brick and has a concrete tiled roof with a 20th century tile coped left gable, single ridge and gable stacks. For the full description of this listed building please refer to the National Heritage List for England. {1} A programme of historic building recording was conducted to mitigate the impact of a scheme of alteration and repair to No. 14 West Street, Crowland. It comprises a pair of small, two storey Regency townhouses, built during the late Georgian or early Victorian period, with a later extension at the rear of the building. The building is mainly constructed in coursed red brick. The north elevation is set in Flemish bond. The east elevation is modern facing, set in Stretcher bond, and was built after the removal of the adjoining property. The west elevation is covered by a cement render, and also shows evidence of the adjoining building that was removed. The main building has a pitched roof covered with modern cement tiles. The extension at the back of the building is thought to have been built when the original two properties were amalgamated into a house and a shop. It is built is coursed red brick set in English Garden Wall bond, and has a hipped roof. The interior of the building and the extension is divided into 12 rooms, and has a cellar. There is also a probable late 19th century outbuilding at the rear of the main building (see PRN 27287). {2}{3}
