Full Description

A house dating from the early 19th century which was constructed of red brick and has a concrete tiled roof with gable stacks. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1} Thomas Oldham (1778-1843) lived at Saltfleetby House, an imposing house in Saltfleetby St Peter, and owned much of the land in Saltfleetby. He was a prominent figure in the village. He built a prospect tower, or gazebo, in the grounds of his house (PRN41271). The Oldham family had moved to Saltfleetby St Peter in about 1785. It has been argued that Saltfleetby House is the one mentioned in the Emeris deposit in the Lincolnshire Archives that contains house plans along with builder’s estimates dated 16 May 1778 for building a house in Saltfleetby St Peter. At some point the Oldham family purchased this property and Thomas Oldham of Asterby is shown occupying the property in 1785 when his son, young Thomas, is seven years old. {2}
