Full Description
House, now used as an administration block, built in the mid 18th century and remodelled in the early and mid 19th century. It is constructed in pink, cream, red and burn brick, with a mid 19th century slate roof and brick gable chimney stacks. The house is on two storeys, with a central doorway and pilastered doorcase in the facade. The doorway is flanked by two early 19th century sash windows on each side. All of the windows have early 19th century brick architraves. The interior is little-disturbed in terms of its original plan form, retaining many contemporary fittings, including the principal turned baluster dog-legged stair with moulded handrails, panelled reveals to the sash windows, panelled doors, an in-built cupboard, fluted pilasters and a decorative frieze. There is an 18th century basement hearth with a contemporary range, and a late 18th century first floor cast-iron hob grate. There are contemporary pegged collar and tie beam roof trusses with single purlins and rafters, with some supplementary modern timbers. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1}
The exterior of the building was photographed during a site visit in July 1999. All of the windows and doors appeared to be boarded up, however, indicating it was not in use at this time. {2}
