Full Description

A house dating from the mid 17th century, which underwent alterations in the 18th and 20th centuries, and is now in use as offices. It is constructed of red brick and has a plain tile roof with a single ridge stack which has been reduced. For the former description and legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1} Church House is a mid 17th century house of red brick with a pantile roof, built in the Fen Artisan Mannerist style. Its south gable faces the north side of St Botolph's Church. Pishey Thompson, in his History of the Antiquities of Boston (1856), refers to this building as the house 'where Laughton's School was taught for many years'. The house is now (2011) used as the parish office. It retains some historic joinery detail including window shutters and a small plank and batten cupboard door in a first floor room.
