Full Description

A house now shop dating from the mid 18th century which underwent alterations in the 20th century. It was constructed of painted brick with painted dressings and has an old plain tiled roof with coped gables and red brick gable stacks, the right-hand one is reduced. For the former description and legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1} The building forms part of a curved terrace of three storey and attic houses on the west side of Market Place. Dating to the early 19th century, 42-42a Market Place was later adapted for use as a shop in common with other premises in the terrace. The building is L-shaped and built of red brick with stone dressings, now (2011) painted on the front elevation, with a plain tile roof covering to the frontage range. It is of three storeys with attics, and has a three bay front with a 20th century shop front. The rear range is a 20th century extension. The original domestic plan form of the building has been considerably changed by commercial usage. The interior has been radically altered and remodelled to accommodate restaurant facilities, with the consequential loss of original fabric, fixtures and fittings.
