Full Description

A lamp standard dating from the early 19th century which was constructed of cast- and wrought-iron. It is ornamental with Greek and Egyptian motifs and has a fluted base, a tall plinth with a Greek key border and a pedestal with anthemion motifs supported on four claw feet, from which rises a fluted Corinthian column with supports for lights composed of scrolled tendrils. It is now converted to electricity. On one side of the plinth is a plaque depicted with the town arms and on the other is an inscription stating "This standard was presented to the town by Alderman Charles Day J.P. Chairman Highways Committee to commemorate his year in office as Mayor of the Borough 1924-5".
