Courthouse, built in 1865. Constructed of stock brick with limestone dressings and featuring a hipped slate roof. It is now in use as a Jobcentre. The Old Court House was the subject of a programme of historic building recording, completed in November 2016 to inform a proposed change of use and alterations. The former courthouse was built in 1865, to the designs of Charles Reeves, the first Surveyor of County Courts. The building is of two and a half storeys, with a three bay front flanked by single two-storey bays with semi-circular corners to the south-west and south-east. It was constructed in an Italianate style, using rusticated brick bands and vermiculated quoins on the southern elevation. The building was subjected to extensive internal alterations during the 20th century, with the addition of new dividing walls and the insertion of new ceilings. The removal of these 20th century intrusions in 2015 exposed much of the original 19th century internal features, including the original roof structure, moulded plaster and joinery detailing throughout, and scars marking the position of the former magistrates dais and various fireplaces and stoves. {3}
