Fairlawns was built in 1894 as a home for gentlewomen 'in reduced circumstances' who required spa treatment. It was extended in 1915 when it was used as a Red Cross Hospital. It is now a nursing home although it is about to be converted to retirement apartments. It is considered to be of townscape value by the Conservation Area Appraisal. {1}
