Full Description

PRN 13965 The chapel, including a school, was built in 1934 when the congregation moved from the New Connexion Zion chapel in West Street. It originally incorporated the "Iron Chapel" moved from another site in Brothertoft Road. Extensions were added to the rear in the 1950's and 60's and in 2003 creating a school hall and youth centre. The chapel is constructed of red brick. The central body of the building has a hipped slate roof and a bowed front with a flat roof and 7 flat-headed lights of coloured glass separated by pilasters. An ashlar string-course runs around the building at the level of the window heads and around the base of the bowed front. A red brick dentil cornice runs under the stone coping of the roof. The side elevations have upper flat-headed windows in 5 bays separated by brick pilasters. There are single-storey lateral elements, or "aisles", with flat roofs and flat-headed windows. Their fronts contain the doorways to the chapel which are flat-headed with stone architraves. The whole building has a red brick plinth.{1}{2}{3}{4}
