Full Description

PRN 13961 The former chapel and Sunday School are both now in use as business premises. The gabled chapel is constructed of red brick and has a slate roof covering. The front elevation is rendered and has a projecting central bay with simulated quoins and overhanging eaves with boards.The central doorway has double doors and a moulded flat architrave ornamented with pellets. There are 2 tiers of shouldered pointed windows with painted stone arches, keystones and imposts. The central window over the door has glazing bars, leaded stained glass in art nouveau style and a plain tympanum inscribed with the date of 1856.The lower sections of the windows to either side of the doorway are blocked. The visible brick side elevation has 2 pointed windows at the upper level, with dressings of beige brick. There is a roundel outlined with beige brick in rear gable and a flat-roofed modern extension to the rear. The chapel closed in 1962 and was sold in 1963. The Sunday School, built 1872, is attached to the west. It is constructed of red brick with a raised gable with stone copings and kneelers and a slate roof covering. Originally there were 3 bays of round headed openings on the front though it has been altered and refenestrated. A stone tablet in the gable is inscribed 'United Methodist Free Church Sunday School 1872'.{1}{2}{3}
