Full Description

55558 TF 161 908 One of the three papermills in Tealby. It was built from a former fulling mill or leather mill by Edward Whitehead in 1800 and was known as 'The Papermill' or Whitehead's Mill. It had fallen into disuse by 1828. The mill was located 500 yards (457m) east of Tealby Church (PRN 50609) at TF 161 908, on the site of a waterfall. Workers cottages was also in existence on the site by 1831. A survey of the site in 1992 revealed that the sluice still survived and in 2001, the millrace, millpond and sluice gate were also still visible. {1}{2} There is a disparity over the location of the various paper mills on the river Rase between sources 2 and 3.
