Full Description

The Wesleyan Methodist chapel is still in use. However, the present building, which was built in 1854 and altered c.1880, was converted to a Sunday School in 1906 when a new chapel was built alongside. This was the position when the building was listed in 1986 though now (in 2008) the new chapel of 1906 no longer exists and the original building has reverted to its former use as a chapel. The building has also been altered since the listing: the gabled porch no longer exists and the roof covering has changed from slate to pantiles. The building is constructed of red brick with painted ashlar dressings. The gabled front has a dogtooth verge and tall semi-circular arched blank recesses with ashlar keystones and stone imposts which continue to form a string course. The blank arches define the 3 bays and the outer 2 contain round-headed windows with intersecting Gothick glazing bars. The gable is raised with stone copings and kneelers. The side elevations have 2 segmental-headed windows with glazing bar sashes. There is a gabled brick extension to the rear.
