Full Description

The former Wesleyan chapel is now in use as a house named 'Chapel Cottage'. The chapel was described by Stell in the inventory of nonconformist chapels and meeting houses in Eastern England which features a drawing or engraving of the building. It has since been substantially altered during conversion to a house. It originally had a 3 bay front with broad pilasters, a gabled parapet and four-centred openings. The present building has a modern pantile roof. The front has a raised gable with stone copings but has been substantially altered from the gabled parapet illustrated when the roof was raised, though the four broad brick pilasters and the decorative brick pediment survive. The shield-shaped date tablet (1846) is set in the new gable. The building has been completely refenestrated, including the insertion of dormer windows, and a new doorway has been inserted in the side elevation. Documentary sources suggest that there was a predecessor to this chapel built in 1811. {1}{2}{3}{4}
