Full Description

The former Wesleyan Methodist Chapel in Butterwick is now in use as business premises. The present building was built in 1901 but documentary sources reveal there was a predecessor built in 1815, and enlarged in 1856 at which time it had a sabbath school. The present gabled building is constructed from red brick and has a roof covering of concrete tiles. The eaves cornices include gault brick and there are multiple string courses of gault brick. The lower string course is composed of a double row of gault brick and on the side elevations there are 2 further rows. The gable end facing the street has 5 further string courses of single rows of gault brick and the upper row in the gable features a diamond motif. The round-headed window arches have stone dressings and there are several foundation stones. The rear part of the building has a separate entrance and probably represents a former Sunday School room. A lean-to annexe is attached behind. {1}{2}{3}{4}
